Program info
VCP installer by Texas Instruments is a driver package that enables a USB connection from supported TI development boards and debug probes to appear as a standard serial (COM) port on your computer. By installing the necessary Virtual COM Port (USB CDC) drivers and configuration files, it allows tools like Code Composer Studio, UniFlash, and terminal applications to communicate with TI hardware over a reliable USB-to-UART bridge.
Key benefits:
- Simple setup: installs the required drivers and INF files in one step
- Broad compatibility: supports TI hardware that exposes a USB CDC/UART interface (such as many XDS110-based LaunchPad and evaluation kits)
- Seamless integration: assigns a COM port automatically for use with development and terminal tools
- Stable communication: supports common baud rates and serial settings for dependable data transfer
Getting started:
- Disconnect any TI boards before installation
- Run the installer with administrator privileges and follow on-screen prompts
- Reconnect your hardware and verify the new COM port under Ports (COM & LPT) in Windows Device Manager
System notes:
- Windows typically requires this installer for USB CDC devices; macOS and Linux usually provide native CDC drivers and do not require a separate VCP installation
- If you have older or conflicting USB-to-serial drivers installed, consider removing them to avoid device enumeration issues
- Some boards may also require TI’s board-specific support utilities (for example, XDS110 support) in addition to the VCP driver
